The first documented occurrence of the species in Luxembourg dates from 1999. It was found on 1st January 1999 in Aarnescht, municipality of Niederanven. 9 occurrences of the species are documented in the Recorder database ranging from 1999 to 2006.

The species can cause damage to rhododendrons while feeding on the sap of this woody plants. Moreover, there has been suggestion that the rhododendron leafhopper contributes to the spread of a Rhododendron fungus through Europe.
